Don’t be surprised if you pick up 5 books for £1, and they’re all mine Wellington. I’ve seen shops selling Ambush in Saigon and all its sequels (Ambush in Saigon 2: Hitler’s Revenge, Ambush in Disneyland, Bloodbath on Sesame Street, and Rise of the Killer Nuns) for 50 cent.

Gosh. I’m positively aching to read the middle of Ambush in Saigon. Balls? Hitler? Severed heads? Knee caps? Heaven? I’d buy it. (Off the market in the 5 books for £1, obviously. All me best literature comes from there).

Oliver Stone was briefly attached to direct a film adaptation Sniffle, and certainly William Defoe would have been in the running. My first choice for the role of ‘The Sarge’ though, was obviously Danny DeVito.

Only DeVito could have brought a credible grit to the character. I’ve met the man, and such is his awesome physical presence that you constantly feel as though you’re potentially seconds from death.

My father in law says that the film’s over when the gal arrives. ( and he’s no women hater) . But the pornography of helicopters which you promised yesterday Flann ? And the orgy too ? And where was William Dafoe? So may questions, so little Nam. Great stuff Flann, reckon the middle bit is just as good .

VinnyK, thanks for spotting the sole error in an otherwise flawless document of history.

In my defence, the word ‘braun’ is German for ‘brown’, and having spent my adolescent years as an internal snitch for Hitler’s Youth, I can’t help occasionally lapsing back into the mutter zunge (see? It’s happened again. That should have been ‘mother tongue’).

No wonder the massed savages didn’t know Eva Brown….just whos is she Flann? Was she Hitlers bit on the side when Eva Braun was away at Oktoberfest?

In fairness it was the only plothole/historical mistake/gross dereliction of a writers responsibility I could find in the whole book….
